Save Suffolk’s Wildlife from EDF’s Sizewell C | Crowdfunder

In August last year we uploaded a podcast, Sizewell C and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, which discussed French energy giant EDF Energy’s proposal to build a new power station at Sizewell in Suffolk, adjoining two existing power stations Sizewell A and Sizewell B. The site lies in the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and right next to the RSPB’s flagship reserve at Minsmere. Now Rachel Fulcher of Suffolk Coastal FoE has let us know about a Crowdfunder set up to pay for expert opinion to challenge EDF’s arguments that the development will do no harm.

Bella Lack | Crowdfunder

Bella Lack is a campaigner for animal rights, wildlife conservation and environmental issues. She’s an ambassador for the Born Free Foundation and the Jane Goodall Foundation, has worked with the government in a bid to tackle poaching for ivory and works with the RSPCA. And she’s still just seventeen. Bella’s next project is a mission to investigate and highlight the extent of her generation’s disconnection from the natural world, how different it was for previous generations, and what she thinks governments should do about it.

Justice for Hen Harriers | Crowdfund appeal

Mark Avery, Feb 2020: “Back in 2018 nearly 1000 people supported a legal challenge I brought against Natural England’s decision to license a highly controversial scheme that involved the chicks of the rare and threatened Hen Harrier being taken away from grouse moors in the uplands of England so as to make life easier for grouse shooting. Yes, it’s a daft idea, no Hen Harrier would vote for it and my lawyers and I considered it to be illegal.”
