Save Suffolk’s Wildlife from EDF’s Sizewell C | Crowdfunder

In August last year we uploaded a podcast, Sizewell C and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, which discussed French energy giant EDF Energy’s proposal to build a new power station at Sizewell in Suffolk, adjoining two existing power stations Sizewell A and Sizewell B. The site lies in the heart of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and right next to the RSPB’s flagship reserve at Minsmere. Now Rachel Fulcher of Suffolk Coastal FoE has let us know about a Crowdfunder set up to pay for expert opinion to challenge EDF’s arguments that the development will do no harm.

Podcast: Mary Colwell | Working to save Curlews

In 2016 naturalist and broadcaster Mary Colwell walked 500 miles across Ireland, Wales, and England to raise awareness of how the once-common Common Curlew was disappearing from the countryside. As she wrote at the time, “I undertook this walk alone and unpaid. I am passionate about saving these birds.” Charlie Moores talked with Mary about her ongoing efforts to save Curlews – including the development of an online ‘toolkit’ aimed at fieldworkers and volunteers.

Fundraiser | Ban Bloodsports on Yorkshire’s Moors

At Ban Bloodsports on Yorkshire’s Moors, our mission is to free up spaces for wildlife and environmental conservation by ending exploitation of the uplands for grouse shooting. We’re seeking £1,000 to help grow our on-the-ground investigations and research work into corporate moorlands where our intelligence indicates birds of prey, badgers and other wildlife is being targeted and killed by gamekeepers to boost grouse numbers for shooting.
